Dr. Henry Griffith named Associate Operations Director 
Dr. Henry Griffith was recently promoted to Associate Operations Director of MATRIX. As part of his expanded responsibilities, he will be leading our workforce development efforts beyond supporting MATRIX operations. Henry will actively develop proposals to seek support from industry and federal agencies for our ongoing education and outreach activities, with his unique skillsets. We look forward to accelerating our student engagement and workforce development efforts in the coming months. Welcome aboard Henry!

MATRIX selects inaugural class of Xilinx-MATRIX AI Fellows for Spring 2021
MATRIX recently received a gift from Xilinx Foundation for “Project LoveLace: Advancing Women in AI & Computing Career Pathways”, as part of their Women in Technology University Grant Program. A portion of the gift will support the inaugural class of Xilinx-MATRIX AI fellows this spring semester. Fellows will be performing AI related research in the lab of a MATRIX core member. Further details regarding the fellows and their research immersion experience will be provided in future updates. Our initial class of fellows includes –

MATRIX Spring 2021 Seminar Series
We began our Spring 2021 Seminar Series with a presentation from Matthew Mattina. Matthew is the ARM Distinguished Engineer and Senior Director of their Machine Learning Research Lab. In addition, he is a member of our advisory board. We also recently welcomed Dr. Pradeep Ravikumar from Carnegie Mellon University. MATRIX adds two new student assistants
We recently onboarded two new student assistants for spring semester – 1) Ashley Aguirre – a freshman Biology major, and 2) Kay Davis – a junior Computer Science major. Both students are already actively engaged in supporting our current operational efforts. We are happy to have Ashely and Kay onboard!
