FEBRUARY 19, 2025 — Dr. Panagiotis Markopoulos explored how Federated Learning is reshaping artificial intelligence, particularly in healthcare. By enabling decentralized model training across institutions, Federated Learning opens doors for applications such as patient monitoring and treatment personalization, without compromising data privacy. We got to learn how Federated Learning is driving innovation at the intersection of AI and human well-being.

FEBRUARY 24, 2025 — This week, we highlighted the standout achievements from the NSF AI Spring School, starting with our three poster session winners! We had a fantastic turnout and were inspired by the incredible work showcased.

FEBRUARY 27, 2025 — Congratulations to doctoral student Maryam Abbasi, MATRIX core member Dr. Murtuza Jadliwala, and their team for receiving the distinguished paper award at NDSS 2025 for their innovative work on VoiceRadar! This novel research focuses on voice deepfake detection using micro-frequency and compositional analysis. We’re proud of their achievement and the impact it will have on enhancing security in voice technology.

FEBRUARY 27, 2025 — Dr. Amina Qutub, MATRIX Thrust Lead and Assistant Director of Strategic Initiatives, participated in the Precision Medicine Workshop hosted by the National Academies of Sciences and KFAS in Kuwait. The workshop focused on advancements in point-of-care technologies and AI for chronic metabolic diseases like diabetes. Dr. Qutub shared insights on AI’s role in precision medicine, engaging with experts and fostering collaboration between Kuwait and the U.S. This event highlights ongoing efforts to enhance health initiatives through knowledge exchange and partnership development.

Special thanks to Dr. Juan Arturo Nolazco-Flores from Tec de Monterrey for teaching us some fantastic dance moves, set to the vibrant sounds of Mariachi Los Galleros de San Antonio! This joyful gathering blended San Antonian culture and community at the NSF AI Spring School—perhaps the start of a new tradition!
